The Cost of Counselling in BC:
Fees & Insurance
Rates
Counselling fees in British Columbia can vary depending on training, experience, and session length. My rates reflect professional standards for Registered Clinical Counsellors (RCCs) and the care, preparation, and ongoing professional development involved in offering therapeutic support.
- 1:1 Services (talk therapy & art therapy): $180/session (50 minutes)
- Clinical supervision and consultation: $180/session (50 minutes)
Each session includes dedicated preparation, a confidential therapeutic space, and follow-up documentation as required. Whether sessions focus on grief counselling, talk therapy, or art-based approaches, the rate remains the same.
Introductory Session
Starting counselling can feel like a big step, especially if you’re unsure what to expect or whether it will feel like the right fit. To help make this process more accessible, I offer an introductory first session at 50% off the regular rate.
Introductory session: $90 for a 50-minute session
This is a one-time offer for new clients
This session allows us to connect, explore what has brought you to counselling, and get a sense of how working together feels — without pressure or long-term commitment. Many clients find this helpful when deciding whether to continue with ongoing sessions.
Insurance
Insurance coverage for counselling varies widely between providers and plans. While I do not bill insurance companies directly, I am a Registered Clinical Counsellor (RCC), and many extended health plans in British Columbia provide partial or full reimbursement for counselling services with an RCC.
After each session, I can provide a detailed receipt that you may submit to your insurance provider for reimbursement, if applicable. I encourage you to check directly with your insurance company to confirm:
-
Coverage amounts
-
Annual limits
-
Any required documentation
If you have questions about receipts or insurance documentation, I’m happy to clarify what I can provide.
Payment
Payment is due before or at the time of your session. To keep the process simple and flexible, I accept the following payment methods:
E-transfer
Credit card
Cash
If you have questions about payment or need to discuss options, you’re welcome to reach out prior to booking.
Cancellation
Your session time is reserved specifically for you. If you need to cancel or reschedule, I kindly ask for at least 48 hours’ notice.
Cancellations with less than 48 hours’ notice are charged 50% of the session fee
Missed appointments without notice are charged the full session fee
I understand that unexpected situations can arise. If something unforeseen happens, please reach out as soon as possible so we can discuss your situation.
A Note on Accessibility
Seeking counselling is a personal decision, and concerns about cost are a very common and understandable part of that process. Many people explore therapy during periods of grief, stress, or transition, when finances may already feel strained or uncertain.
While I am unable to offer sliding-scale sessions at this time, I believe it’s important to approach conversations about cost with openness and care. You are welcome to reach out if you have questions about fees, session structure, or frequency, and we can talk through what feels manageable and supportive for you.
Counselling does not have to follow a rigid or one-size-fits-all schedule. Some clients choose to attend sessions more frequently for a period of time, while others space sessions out based on their needs and circumstances. Together, we can explore options that feel realistic and respectful of your situation.
My intention is to ensure that you have clear information, feel no pressure to commit, and are supported in making choices that align with both your emotional needs and your current capacity.
